Recovery Tank Bulge is a built in SAFETY WARNING INDICATOR THAT YOU HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG

The bulge is a built in safety warning indicator. Usually that you have calculated true volume incorrectly or filled the tank too much by some other means. You can never fill any tank completely with liquid. You must always leave some air in it. Ever read the warning on gas tanks. "NEVER FILL TO THE TOP"
Hydraullically filling a tank can cause the tank to burst. These Extractor Tanks have a safe MAXIMUM FILL of 650 ml.

Let me elaborate to another source of the problem and a solution.
To find out how much butane you have inside the tank without being able to see it or measure it volumetrically, you must weight the amount you added and then covert the gram weight to millimeters.
You do this by taring the tank before adding any butane inside. Make sure you include the seal cap and all parts that will be on it after you fill it. Begin filling it and then check the weight to measure the increase. Each time you check the weight in grams, you must convert the weight to mm using this formula.
CONVERT ONLY INCREASED WEIGHT IN GRAMS BY DIVIDING BY .577 to get the volume in MM.
Make sure you divide and not multiply and divide only the weight increased by the added butane.. Never exceed the maximum usable volume of 650. If you fill tank over 650 you run the risk of hydraulically filling the tank by removing all air. Air can compress and offers a buffer for when the liquid expands as it warms up. LIQUID DOES NOT COMPRESS WHICH IS WHY HYDRAULICS WORK TO MOVE HOUSE TYPE WEIGHTS AND LOWER BRIDGES. Without the AIR buffer zone, the liquid will EXPAND and rupture or bulge the tank when it warms up from the temperature it was at when filled which is usually very cold. Once the expansion is relieved with the safety bulge built into the design, the pressure is relieved but you must still release it just in case it warms up again, then press the bulge back in and refill with a safe amount again.

We compress each tank bottom in just a small amount so that if you guys over fill hydraullically the tanks will not rupture during the expansion.
Remember "The bulge is a built in safety warning indicator" Please release the pressure if you see that.

i don't mind the bulge, just thought you should know.

of course, if you wish to examine the recovery tank, i would be happy to send it. (fyi...the top valve leaks a bit when opened)

thanks, dennis

You must have hydraulically filled the tank with butane. If this happens, let some out immediately.
We pressure test these units to over 100 PSI and the only thing that makes the bottom pop out is having it hydraulically full of butane.

Remember that ounces is sometimes used to represent volume or weight in a disposable canister. Since you dont know which one they used, you may want to weigh it once you get it out to be safe. SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT
